1 Jan 2010     Happy New Year!!  Thanks to all who have contributed to the Haskell
                         County TXGenWeb page this past year.   You have helped all Haskell County

6 Dec 2009    The Haskell Progressive Study Club is looking for volunteer help and
                         donations for the Veterans of Haskell County Wall of Honor Monument.

21 Nov 2009 Two new items are on the Biographies & Sketches page.   Both are from
                         Haskell researchers looking for more info on the families or looking to
                         share a family photo.

                         Ron Kay has  provided family data on Fancy S. "Fannie" Kay, her mother,
                         Mary Elizabeth and her brother, John L.    He is looking for more about Fannie
                         and her brother.   All three are buried in Willow Cemetery but Fannie has no
                         date of death listed.   See "William N. Kay Family" at

                          A photo from about 1912 showing the Charles & Nora Crane family can also be
                          seen on the Biographies & Sketches page.   Are you a Crane researcher? 
                          Dick Whitaker who submitted the photo, will provide a copy of the picture if you
                          would like it.    The family lived in Haskell County in the early 20th century.

31 Oct 2009    The Rule Cemetery listing is now complete.  Jim Webb finished the survey
                           he began last March and all of the cemetery names in the survey are now uploaded
                           to the Haskell County TXGenWeb Page.     The search engine is updated  to
                           include these additional names.

20 Oct 2009   The Read-Webb Family Page has two additional family photos to see.
                           These two photos are of the Read daughters when they got together, in 1977,
                           for the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Gladys (Read) Williams.

2 Oct 2009       The Biographies and Sketches page is updated with the link to the
                           Stephens Family website of Penny Holmes.   The Murrel Williamson Stephens
                           family included several descendants who lived in Haskell County.   Penny
                           has family genealogy, photos and biographical material about the family on
                           her webpage.   Thanks Penny for providing this information for the Haskell

23 Sep 2009     Two new cemetery links are on the Haskell County Cemetery page.
                            These two cemeteries are in Haskell  County near the Jones County line.
                            Thanks to Don Haynes for providing this data for Stamford West Cemetery
                             and Highland Memorial Cemetery.

29 Aug 2009     A transcription of the Rule Cemetery located near the town of Rule in
                            Haskell County, is now on the Haskell TXGenWeb page thanks to
                            the survey done by Jim Webb.  This is a partial listing containing about
                            3/4 of the burials there.

25 Aug 2009     Another obituary is added to the Haskell Obituaries listing.   This one is
                             from the October 1924 Haskell Free Press and was submitted by
                             Sue Ashby who added some family information.   If you have an

17 Jul 2009       A listing for Cliff Cemetery burials has been provided by Wanda Ham

20 Jun 2009     Several Obituaries are added to the Haskell Obituaries page.   These are from
                            early editions of the Haskell Free Press and were provided by Judith Atkeison
                            from her family's collection.   She also sent a few marriage notices and those are
                            added to the Early Marriage Records page with a link to each newspaper clipping.

                             There are also two more pictures of early Haskell - the Texas Cafe of 1940's &
                             1950's and the 1914 South Ward School Class.

31 May 2009    A link to a new item on the TXGenWeb page is under "Texas Muster Rolls
                           1835-1836" on the Haskell County Page.   This consists of scans of the
                           original Muster Rolls.  There's a surname index prepared by TXGenWeb
                           member, Billie Nichols Bennett.   And you can choose to view the original
                           documents in .pdf format.     Thanks to TXGenWeb for making this

2 May 2009     Family information about the Jarrett Bell family of early Rule, is now on the
                          Biographies & Sketches page.  Nanci Swindle has sent a photo and genealogy
                          data.   She would like to hear from descendants of this family.

                         Another member of the Haskell High School Class of 1939 has died.   Tina (Lowe)
                         Grappe's obituary is on the Haskell Obituaries Page.    Dr. Paul Crawford and
                         Joyce Nell (Hambleton) Wood also graduated with the class and recently died.

19 Apr 2009    Two new articles from the past are now found on the Schools of Haskell
                          page.  These are from 1911 and 1923 issues of the "Haskell Free Press".

                          On the Obituaries page there is an Obituary for Mrs. J. L. (Hallie) Jones
                          from a 1916 issue of "The Haskell Free Press".

12 Apr 2009   The Haskell Churches Photo page is updated with 2 articles from
                          "The Haskell Free Press" - one from 1894 and one from 1910.  The Mulkey
                           Revival of 1894 is the story for that year and the 1910 article gives a
                           detailed history of the Methodist Church of Haskell published at the
                           time of the laying of the cornerstone for a new church building.
                           These articles are provided by Judith Atkeison from her collection.

5 Apr 2009     Take a look at the latest addition to the Biographies & Sketches page.
                          Judith Atkeison has sent a scan of two old Haskell Free Press issues.
                          Both pertain to a couple of the earliest Cowboy Reunion events, one of which
                          was held in Haskell in 1898!!   There are several items included in this
                          new addition - items which were also in these old Free Press issues.

                         The obituary for Dr. Paul B. Crawford, former resident of Haskell, is on the
                         Obituaries page.   Dr. Crawford grew up in Haskell and graduated High School
                         here.   He was a prominent petroleum engineer and professor at Texas A. & M.
                         University.

23 Mar 2009  The Business Picture Pages have some new, interesting photos from the
                          early days, thanks to Judith Atkeison.   See the Merchant's Cafe & Bakery
                          for 1913, 1915 and 1920.   Henry Atkeison's M Systems Store is also pictured
                          ca 1930.   An 1890 report card for Annie Glasscock is now linked on the Schools
                          of Haskell page.  Judith says Annie was 14 years old that year.   Another parade
                          photo is on the Haskell Downtown page.    Look under "Haskell County Photo
                          Pages" on the left side of the Haskell Co TXGen Home page and click on the links

                          Another very interesting item is a scan of a story from the June 1, 1889, "Haskell
                          Free Press" sent by Judith Atkeison and transcribed for the webpage.  It is on
                          the Haskell Bios & Sketches page under "Hunt on Clear Fork".

15 Mar 2009   Several new photos are now on the Haskell picture pages.   Judith Atkeison has
                         sent photos of the 1921-1922 girls basketball players, the 1915 6th grade, the 1911
                         East Ward school photo (in 3 sections to get the whole picture) two parade floats
                         from the BlueBirds of 1948 & 1949 and a ca 1913 photo of the Spanish American
                         War Veterans.    Thanks to Judith for these great pictures.   See the links marked
